Katherine Hepburn and My Bee Smoker

Katharine Hepburn famously said “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere,” to socially justify her afternoon cocktail.  I’d like to say, “It’s spring somewhere,” to justify peeking into one of my three beehives to see if they’ve survived the long, cold winter.  It’s simply unfair that southern beekeeps are already tending to their hives, planning reversals and deliberating swarm-prevention tactics. My hives are 15 inches under snow, day time temps haven’t climbed above 38 degrees and there’s not a crocus or grape hyacinth in site.  Hrumph.  It’s spring somewhere..I’m going out to the bee shed and light my bee smoker.
